West Kelowna is BC Hydro territory: up to $5,000 back on solar, up to $5,000 on a battery. How the rebate works

Off-Grid Solar Systems in West Kelowna & Westside Road

For cabins, acreages and building lots up Westside Road and in the hills behind Glenrosa, where bringing in a power line costs more than a complete solar system.

Stand-Alone Power on the Westside

Head up Westside Road past Traders Cove, or into the back roads above Glenrosa and Trepanier, and the cost of a grid connection climbs fast. Distance to the nearest line, rock, steep slopes and right-of-way all add up, and quotes over $50,000 are not unusual.

A properly designed off-grid system is often cheaper than that line extension, and there is no monthly bill once it is paid for.

It is a different design problem from rooftop grid-tie. There is no utility to fall back on in December, when the sun sits low behind the hills on the west shore by mid-afternoon. The battery bank and the winter production figure set the size, not the July peak that looks good on a brochure.

We also design smaller systems for cabins, RVs and seasonal lake properties. Many only need a well or lake pump, lights, a fridge and internet from May to October, and the right answer there is a much smaller system.

If you already run a generator, tell us what you spend on fuel and servicing each year. We will show you how a solar and battery system compares.

Call 250-250-2525 and tell us about the property and what needs to run. That conversation usually settles the rough scale.

What’s included

What an Off-Grid System Includes

Full load audit

Every appliance and circuit, what it draws and when it runs. Start-up surges from well pumps and shop tools size the inverter as much as the everyday load does.

Winter-first array design

Sized against December light on your actual slope, and often mounted steeper than a roof array so snow slides off and the panels catch the low winter sun.

Battery bank and autonomy

You see the price of two days of stored power next to three or four, so you choose the level of cover rather than finding out in January.

Inverter-charger and controls

Sized for continuous and surge load, and laid out so that one failed component doesn’t take the whole property down.

Generator integration

Auto-start generator backup for long grey stretches and smoky weeks, set so it runs when it is needed and not otherwise.

Ground or roof mounting

Rural lots usually have room for a ground-mount at the ideal angle, which is easier to clear of snow and to maintain.

Pricing

Off-Grid Solar Costs

SystemSuitsInstalled cost
Cabin / seasonalLake cabin or recreational property, spring to fall$13,000 – $22,000
Full-time off-grid homeYear-round living, well pump, full appliances$38,000 – $65,000
Home + shop or farmResidence plus workshop or agricultural loadpriced after a load audit

Off-grid cost depends on load and days of autonomy, not floor area. Two houses the same size can differ by $20,000 depending on whether they heat with wood, propane or electricity. BC Hydro’s rebate requires a grid connection, so it doesn’t apply to off-grid systems.

Have a line-extension quote? Bring it along. Put next to the cost of an off-grid system, it often makes the decision on its own.

Why us

Why Off-Grid Owners Choose Us

Designed for December

Systems sized on summer output leave you running the generator all winter. We start with winter output.

Autonomy you choose

Each extra day of battery is priced separately, so nothing gets quietly padded.

Westside Road ready

Steep lots, gravel access, long drives and pines that shade half the yard are normal site conditions for us.

Generator done right

Correct sizing, auto-start and sensible charge settings, so the generator stays a backup and not a daily habit.

Why We Design for December

On the west shore of the lake, the sun drops behind the hills early on a winter afternoon. A December day can produce a fifth of a July day. An off-grid system sized on summer numbers runs the generator all winter.

We size the battery bank for the number of dark days you want to ride through, mount the array steep enough to shed snow, and set the generator to start only when it has to.

Steeper tilt, better winter. Ground-mounts at 50–60° catch the low winter sun and shed snow on their own.

Process

How an Off-Grid Project Runs

  1. Load audit

Every circuit, what it draws, its start-up surge and when it runs.

  2. Site and winter model

Array location, tilt, shading and December production on your slope.

  3. Battery decision

Autonomy options priced side by side.

  4. Build and commissioning

Including generator integration and a walkthrough of living with the system.
