Solar That Makes Sense in Shannon Lake
The neighbourhoods around Shannon Lake and the golf course were mostly built from the 1990s on: modern roofs, 200-amp service and tidy south and west planes. It is about as straightforward as residential solar gets, so the real questions are size and whether to add a battery.
Many Shannon Lake homes have heat pumps, air conditioning and an EV in the garage, which pushes use into BC Hydro’s higher step. Every kWh of solar you use yourself there saves 14.08¢, which shortens the payback.
Call 250-250-2525 and tell us roughly what your monthly bill is. That is usually enough to tell whether solar is worth pursuing at your address. If it isn’t, we will say so instead of booking a visit to tell you in person.

BC Hydro Rebates and the 2026 Rate in Shannon Lake
Shannon Lake is BC Hydro territory, supplied through the Westbank substation like the rest of West Kelowna. A Shannon Lake homeowner can claim $1,000 per kW of panels, up to $5,000, plus up to $5,000 toward a battery enrolled in Peak Saver. The one catch is order: BC Hydro has to accept the self-generation application before installation, or the rebate is lost. We file it first.
Since July 1, 2026, new systems in Shannon Lake go on BC Hydro’s self-generation rate. Surplus you export is credited at 10¢/kWh each billing cycle, while solar you use yourself saves 11.87–14.08¢. That is why we size to your household’s use, and why west-facing panels that cover your late-afternoon load can be worth more than their annual output suggests. BC Hydro rebate guide
Assessment
What We Look at on a Shannon Lake Property
Before we give you a number, four things get measured. Any one of them can change the answer.
Roof planes and direction
Every usable roof plane is measured for direction and pitch. On many Shannon Lake homes the best layout is split across two planes, which affects the inverter choice and the price.
Shade, hour by hour
Pines, neighbouring homes above you on the slope and the hills around Shannon Lake can all shade a roof. Shade on a few panels can pull down the rest, so we model it through the day and across the seasons.
A year of power bills
Twelve months of usage is the most important number. Under the 2026 self-generation rate, solar you use yourself is worth more than solar you export, so your use sets the system size.
Your electrical panel
Some panels need an upgrade before solar or a battery can connect, usually $2,000 to $4,500. We check this during the survey, so it is in your Shannon Lake quote and not a surprise on install day.
Pricing
What Solar Costs in Shannon Lake
Most Shannon Lake homes fall in the middle of the residential range. A starter system runs from about $9,200 installed, and a typical family home lands between $13,800 and $24,000 before any rebate.
| System size | Suits | Installed from | After BC Hydro rebate | Est. output / yr | Est. saving yr 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 kW | Small home or partial offset | from $9,200 | $5,200 | ~4,600 kWh | ~$530 |
| 6 kW | 1,500–2,000 sq ft home | from $13,800 | $8,800 | ~6,900 kWh | ~$790 |
| 8 kW | 2,000–2,800 sq ft home | from $18,400 | $13,400 | ~9,200 kWh | ~$1,060 |
| 10 kW+ | Large home, heat pump or EV | from $23,000 | $18,000 | ~11,500 kWh+ | ~$1,320+ |
Rebate $1,000/kW up to $5,000, capped at 50% of cost. Savings at about 11.5¢/kWh blended under BC Hydro’s 2026 rates. Your Shannon Lake figure depends on orientation, shade, panel count and your electrical service.

250-250-2525Why a Local Installer Matters
We work across West Kelowna every week, so a survey in Shannon Lake fits into the same week, and a service call years from now is a short drive. We know the housing here: older Westbank electrical panels, hillside roofs that face the view instead of the sun, and pines that have grown up since the houses were built.
Call 250-250-2525 and we will tell you honestly whether your Shannon Lake property is worth surveying.
